Do you love to give gifts? I do! It’s so fun to pick out a gift you know a friend will adore and give it, especially when they are least expecting something.
Unfortunately as a busy mother of three, I don’t always have time to figure out the perfect gift. I’ve ended up giving less-than-perfect gifts just because I haven’t been able to organise something better. Of course it’s still appreciated, but deep down inside I wanted to do better.
Over the last few years, I’ve collected some gift ideas that have gone over really well with my fellow mama friends (either giving or receiving) so I figured I’d compile them here to use in the future. These are simple gifts to get, no fuss needed, and at the same time they are very personal and thoughtful. Whether it’s for a birthday or marking a milestone or “just because,” I hope these ideas help you figure out what to give someone you love!
Favourite Personal Gifts for Mums
1. Tea
Oh so many flavours and brands of teas to choose from these days! I love to browse over the shelves at the shop but don’t like to spend an extra 5-10 dollars to try something new. If I’m given a box of unusual tea, I’m so excited! Add a packet of cookies or dried fruit and nut mix in a bag or basket and you’re good to go.
2. Essential Oils
If you or your friend hasn’t discovered the magic of essential oils, DON’T WAIT ANY LONGER!! They can be pricey, but if you’re using a brand like Doterra, there are semi regular “buy one, get one” deals. So stock up on a few bottles to give as gifts! Or, if you are already experienced at using oils, put together a special blend you think your friend will appreciate.
3. Inspiring Words
I’m a sucker for inspiring quotes. They remind me of what’s important and lift my spirit on a cloudy day. Luckily there are quite a few sources to get inspiring words on cards, calendars, T-shirts, you name it. You can always use my Grateful Mama Project printable, as well.
4. Labels
Whether it’s a set of stickers with the family name (so you can label all those umbrellas and tupperware sets that get left at picnics) or full home address labels, these come in handy and you can never have too many. Google “personalized labels” to find a company near you.
5. A Favourite DVD
Sure, a lot of shows or movies can be found on some sort of streaming site these days, but not all… and especially not the oldies! Are there any movie references your friend often uses, or do they love a particular actress or actor? Surprise them with a DVD they can watch on a night when they just need to chill out and have exhausted the usual media delivery services. Maybe throw in a bag or two of microwavable popcorn, too.
6. Gift Card
I know, I know, a gift card is not usually considered a personal gift, but if you choose a store or restaurant that your friend is particularly fond of, then it definitely is! Consider what your friend loves or needs but isn’t ready to splurge on. Putting a bit of cash towards something she wants can be really appreciated.
7. Personalized Jewellery
Lastly, if you have a bit more of a budget, personalized jewellery is something most mamas won’t spend on themselves but would love to have. Whether the piece is inscribed with family names, special dates, words of encouragement, or a special phrase, a necklace or bracelet can be super special if it’s uniquely made for someone with love.
Pictured above are some of the Personalized Mother Necklaces I arranged for the coordinators of our local homeschool group. Aren’t they gorgeous! Centime makes such a huge range of personalized jewellery and gifts at reasonable prices, and I couldn’t believe how many styles there were to choose from. Plus each one came in a sweet little gift box with a silver cleaning cloth to boot.
None of these gifts are particularly motherhood related however, from my experience, they will be appreciated by most mums. Even if just for the fact that it’s a gift for them to have/use and not yet another something else for the house or the kids!
